Stop Dominion and the Data Center Industry from Gutting Virginia’s Climate Laws

Dominion Energy — backed by the data center and gas industries — is pressuring lawmakers to weaken the Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA). Former governor Terry McAuliffe is now co-chair of a national gas group pushing the same rollback.

Instead of retiring fossil fuel plants as the VCEA requires, Dominion and its allies want to use data center growth as an excuse to build six new gas-fired power plants. But the data center industry — some of the wealthiest corporations in the world — can meet its energy needs through solar, wind, battery storage, and efficiency. The Southern Environmental Law Center lays out exactly how. Protect the climate and Virginia ratepayers.
