When life turns chaotic—whether from personal loss, global crisis, or quiet internal unraveling—something powerful happens when women come together. Our moments of vulnerability have the potential to bring us closer together. But we only achieve this in support of all women. Not just the women we know who are like us. Just as people all over the world are diverse and varied, so are the women we meet in our day to day lives. We all potentially come from vastly different contexts and backgrounds. But that doesn’t mean those differences have to divide us. Those differences can actually increase our awareness, break down unintentional barriers & stereotypes, and bridge the divide between all the types of women we are in this modern era.
How do we do this? We need intersectionality within the women’s movement. We need to bridge the current gaps across race, class, sexuality, physical and mental ability, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, identity and background. We need to encourage solidarity across all sectors of our communities. From rural to suburban to urban. From single to partnered. From at-home parent to working parent. From working-class to wealthy. From disabled to able-bodied. From Gen Z to The Silent Generation. From cis-het to trans to asexual to queer. From GED to PhD. From white to brown to black. And everyone between. This can open our eyes to worlds outside of our own limited individual experiences. And increase compassion and understanding for those who aren’t exactly the same as we are. Let’s commit to being allies, mentors, cheerleaders, and truth-tellers for one another. Because when women rise together, we all rise.
