Elect Jay Jones, Attorney General

On August 7, 2025, Democratic candidate for Attorney General, Jay Jones, released his comprehensive plan to address public safety, which includes proposals to combat violent crime, get illegal guns off the streets, and promote child safety. 

Jay Jones has worked to expand abortion rights in the Virginia Legislature, and he is proud to have served on the Virginia Planned Parenthood board, as well. Jones will always work to ensure Virginia women, doctors, and clinics are protected to the full extent of the law and to support Planned Parenthood and local community health centers providing healthcare to women against attempts to bankrupt them through the legal system. Jones has also committed to joining the multi-state coalition of Attorneys General who are fighting back against attempts to restrict abortion rights through the courts, and create a reproductive rights hotline where women can receive information about their rights in Virginia to ensure they are fully informed so those rights can be protected.” 

In contrast, GOP extremist Jason Miyares was an “expert presenter” on August 12, 2025, at a briefing held by anti-abortion extremists who are working to undermine abortion rights in Virginia. The briefing was hosted by The Family Foundation, one of the most far-right, anti-abortion groups in the country. In his remarks, MAGA Miyares praised the group, stating that he is “excited” about the work that The Family Foundation (an extremist group!) is doing, which we know is rolling back reproductive rights for everyone, including Virginians. https://dems.ag/maga-virginia-ag-miyares-praises-group-working-to-ban-abortion/

Carolyn Fiddler, Democratic Attorneys General Association’s (DAGA) Director of Communications, said, “Jason Miyares showed his true colors last night by aligning himself with one of the most far-right, anti-abortion groups in the country. The truth is that his anti-abortion position is unpopular and out of touch with where the overwhelming majority of Virginians are on this issue. Virginians can’t trust him to protect their access to critical health care when he’s cozying up to the very same people who want to take it away.”

In fact, GOP extremist AG Jason Miyares has consistently failed to protect Virginians or to stand up to the Trump administration for breaking the law. While MAGA Miyares continues to put politics before people, Jay Jones intends to shift more resources to restore the AG office’s focus, where it should be: on targeting violent crime, drug trafficking, sexual abuse, and repeat offenders. Jones’ plan also includes the creation of a child safety unit within the AG’s office and plans to hold lawbreaking gun manufacturers accountable through investigation and prosecution.
